Timeline

Community outreach began in Summer 2024 to disseminate the analysis and findings from the perspective reports, ensuring the involvement of nearby cities, communities, organizations, and insights from regulatory agencies.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and her administration presented a report with a siting recommendation for the Airport West site to the Board of County Commissioners at the September 17, 2024, board meeting. A Request for Proposal for the development of a Zero Waste Master Plan (ZWMP) was advertised in late August with the goal of identifying a consultant to help develop a plan for Miami-Dade County to become a Zero Waste County. The ZWMP will assist in identifying some waste diversion technologies that can be incorporated into the SSWC.

The timeline for establishing the new SSWC ranges from seven to 10 years, contingent upon the chosen site. This timeframe considers various factors impacting the development schedule at each specific location, such as preliminary planning, permitting, financing, procurement, design and construction. The duration fluctuates based on the project’s complexity and the level of regulatory and public considerations involved. The development of a ZWMP is expected to start in late 2024 or early 2025.
