Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz

District 12 encompasses an area of Western Miami-Dade and includes the City of Doral, a portion of Hialeah, Hialeah Gardens, MedleySweetwater and Virginia Gardens and a large portion of unincorporated Miami-Dade County.
He was first elected as commissioner in September 2002 and was re-elected to a fifth term in 2018. He also served as the Vice-Chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners from 2009-2010.

Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz, the Mayor of the City of Sweetwater and members of the commission joined a who’s who of sports figures as organizers announced plans for Destination Sport Miami, a proposal to build the largest indoor, multi-sport facility in North America — right here in District 12.

The Miami-Dade County Legislative Internship Program Application is now available

The Miami-Dade County Commission on May 14, adopted a resolution sponsored by Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz that establishes the Miami-Dade County Legislative Internship program. This program gives higher learning students the opportunity to put what they have learned into action, build experience and work alongside professionals within Miami-Dade County. 

Street naming ceremony honors late Miami-Dade police captain

On Aug. 28, Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz and Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins joined family and friends at the official street naming ceremony for Capt. Gustavo “Gus” Duarte, a public servant who worked at the Miami-Dade Police Department and passed away Feb. 9 at the age of 60.

Dolphin Station Park and Ride Transit Facility

Coming this fall, the Dolphin Station Park and Ride Transit Terminal Facility located at 11897 NW 12th Street, will accommodate a new Bus Rapid Transit along the Dolphin Expressway connecting to Downtown, along with several other local bus routes, and the potential for growth to include rail.
