Two men arrested for illegal disposal in Northwest Miami-Dade
Following a thorough investigation conducted by the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management’s (DSWM) Special Investigations Unit (SIU), two individuals were arrested by the Miami-Dade Sherriff’s Department Office (MDSO) for illegal dumping and disposing of construction and demolition materials in the public right-of-way.
"It is our responsibility to protect our surroundings, ensuring we do not damage or pollute our communities and roadways. In Miami-Dade County, illegal dumping is not only harmful but also illegal, and those caught will face severe penalties," stated DSWM Director Aneisha Daniel, PhD.
SIU Investigators initiated a surveillance operation on January 22, 2025. During this operation, investigators observed two suspects offloading construction materials and furniture onto the public right-of-way along NW 105th Street. Both suspects were subsequently interviewed by SIU investigators, and admitted to the illegal dumping. The officers then contacted the MDSO, leading to the arrest of both individuals, who were subsequently taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK).
Illegal dumping can harm the environment and results in millions of dollars spent on enforcement and cleanup costs. The DSWM reminds residents that illegal dumping is a crime in Miami-Dade County and is subject to fines, vehicle seizure, and arrest and incarceration.
Miami-Dade residents who witness illegal dumping in progress should call 911. Never confront someone who is dumping. Instead, attempt to get the vehicle license plate number or a description of the vehicle used to commit the crime. If an instance of illegal dumping has already taken place, call 311.
Illegal dumping can also be reported using the MDC Solid Waste mobile application for Apple iPhone and Android smartphone users. It’s available for download free of charge in the iTunes and Google Play stores.
