Drownings have become the leading cause of death in Miami-Dade County for children
ages one to nine, but studies show that participation in formal swim lessons can reduce
that risk by 88%.

Zero Drownings Miami is a new innovative water safety program that will transform
drowning prevention education throughout the county by investing in year-round, continuous
swim lessons for those that need it the most. Key community partners and swim safety
practitioners are working collaboratively to develop, operate and fund a long-term,
large-scale safety net for children by coordinating essential learn to swim lessons,
during the school day, with the goal of reaching 20,000 children within three years
and continuing at that level for future generations.
