Public Safety Mission Statement:

To provide a safe and secure community through efficient and effective public safety services using a holistic approach that affirms the worth and dignity of all residents.

Safety is essential to the quality of life in our community and critical in achieving all our County’s goals. The County promotes safety in the community through outreach, education and regulation. We aim to reduce crime by providing essential police, correctional, and juvenile services; we also partner with our local court system to attain justice for all residents through the rule of law. We respond to emergencies every day with fire and rescue services and stand ready to serve the community in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster.

Transportation and Mobility Mission Statement:

To provide a safe and resilient transportation system that enhances mobility, connects communities, and supports a prosperous County, while minimizing carbon emissions.

An effective transportation system is necessary for the county’s economic growth and quality of life. Miami-Dade County builds and maintains roadways, bridges, sidewalks, and bike paths. We provide public transit services, including bus, rail and special transportation services for the disabled, as well as regulating the taxicab and limousine industries. Miami-Dade County collaborates with partners including the Florida Department of Transportation, the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority, and the Federal Transportation Administration to implement system improvements.

Neighborhood and Infrastructure Mission Statement:

To protect and preserve our natural resources, and provide efficient and accessible neighborhood and related environmental infrastructure services that enhance quality of life for all residents.

Vibrant neighborhoods are well planned, with plenty of green space and opportunities to walk and bike, and with easy access to services and businesses frequented by its residents. County employees are hard at work every day of the week to provide the basic services that we all count on, including planning, permitting, water and sewer service, environmental resources management, solid waste management, roadway maintenance, code enforcement and beautification. We also care for animals that have been lost, mistreated or abandoned. Additionally, our County plays a critical role in preserving South Florida’s beaches and other environmental treasures.

Health and Society Mission Statement:

To improve the quality of life and promote the independence of vulnerable residents by providing effective social services and affordable housing.

Miami-Dade County is there to lend a hand when our residents need help taking care of themselves and their families. We facilitate Head Start and Early Head Start instruction to preschool age children and help working families obtain quality childcare. We provide affordable and subsidized housing to eligible residents. We provide job training to youth and adults. We coordinate a comprehensive system of services for homeless individuals and families. We provide a wide range of services to residents with special needs, from the elderly to people with disabilities to domestic violence survivors.

• Clearer focus on services for survivors of domestic violence and other crimes, as well as services related to substance abuse
• Greater focus on child development and support for families
• Enhanced emphasis on the importance of affordable housing for workers

Health and Society Goals and Objectives:

Economic Development Mission Statement:

To foster economic vitality by capitalizing on our strengths and by supporting investments in key emerging industries that increase opportunities for small businesses and the local workforce.

A strong economy creates jobs and opportunity for the entire community. It helps create vibrant, attractive urban centers and neighborhoods, where inviting shops and quality services are available. Our County partners with the private sector and municipalities to promote economic growth, increase incomes, and generate jobs throughout the community. We operate Miami International Airport and the Port of Miami, two major economic engines. We fund and develop affordable housing and help families purchase homes. We provide opportunities for small businesses to compete for County contracts. Additionally, we promote Miami-Dade as a global gateway for international trade and tourism and as a filming destination and a production center for the entertainment industry.

Recreation and Culture Mission Statement:

To equitably develop, promote and preserve outstanding and engaging cultural, recreational, library, and natural enrichment opportunities for residents and visitors of this and future generations.

Great communities have great spaces. Parks, greenways, libraries, and theaters enrich the lives of residents and visitors and create a shared sense of pride in the community. Miami-Dade County oversees over 275 parks and 50 libraries throughout the county, and maintains many of our treasured beaches and marinas. 

We operate or provide support to many area attractions and cultural facilities. We provide a wide range of programs and services for individuals and families, including free Internet access at libraries and summer camps for children.  Additionally, we provide direct support to diverse cultural organizations and individual artists, as well as promoting our vibrant arts and culture scene to the entire community.

General Government Mission Statement:

To provide ethical and transparent government that supports excellent public service delivery, that is easily accessible, and that is informed by active engagement with the community and our local partners.

In order to fulfill this mission, our County relies on internal support services such as human resources, finance, strategic management and budgeting, grants coordination, auditing, information technology, procurement and fleet and facilities management. We provide information on all County services through channels such as the 311 Answer Center and our web portal. We also facilitate the democratic process by administering elections. Additionally, we promote sustainability and resilience concepts throughout County government and the entire community. Many of these services take place behind the scenes, but they are essential to our success and inseparably tied to the overall functioning of government.
