Miami-Dade County Women's Hall of Fame

The Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners established the Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2021 to recognize and honor women who have improved the quality of life of individuals and communities throughout Miami-Dade County. The Hall of Fame honors women who have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for women and for all residents of Miami-Dade County and preserves the legacies of important women whose contributions to Miami-Dade County should not be forgotten.

2023 Inductees

Frederica S. Wilson

Roxcy Bolton
Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson proudly represents Florida’s 24th Congressional District. It is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse districts in the nation and includes parts of northwest Miami-Dade, Miami-Dade Coastal Communities, and southern Broward counties.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen

A native of Cuba, former U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) served for almost three decades as a Member of Congress representing diverse areas in South Florida. She was the Chairwoman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Katherine Fernandez Rundle

Katherine Fernandez Rundle, Miami-Dade County’s top law enforcement officer, is the County’s and Florida’s first Cuban American State Attorney (SA). She is a nationally recognized leader and pioneer of Smart Justice programs who has always treated offenders as individuals, helping those she could and punishing those she must.

Nominations

During January of each year, the Miami-Dade County Commission for Women accepts nominations for inclusion into the Hall of Fame. Nominations include general information and a description of the nominee’s work and qualifications, including the nominee’s significant and enduring community contributions. Nominees may be living or deceased and self-nominations are accepted.

The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women submits its recommendations to the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners by the end of February. The Chairperson of the Board may add additional recommendations to those received from the Miami-Dade County Commission for Women. The Chairperson shall then forwards no fewer than five recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners. The Board of County Commissioners may then selects, by ballot during the next available regularly scheduled Board of County Commissioners meeting, up to three persons from the recommendations for membership to the Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame.

Nominees selected for membership to the Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame in a given year shall be honored at an induction ceremony to take place in the Board of County Commissioner’s chambers during regularly scheduled Board of County Commissioners meeting. The Office of the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners will plan the induction ceremony in collaboration and coordination with the Miami-Dade County Commission for Women. Eventually, the nominees will be displayed in a physical location for public viewing.

About Us

The Miami-Dade County Commission for Women was established in 1971 to serve as an advisory board to the Board of County Commissioners, the County Administration and the public at large about all matters pertaining to the status of women. The Commission for Women is responsible for accepting nominations to the Miami-Dade County Women’s Hall of Fame and for making recommendations for membership.
