Missing Items

The following categories of items have been selected for recovery if found:

• Photographs, including those in photo albums
• Jewelry
• Wallets and related items typically found in wallets, such as credit/debit cards and driver licenses/identification cards
• Small communication devices such as cell phones, tablets, or iPads
• Religious items
• Engraved items
• Firearms
• Safes
• Currency

Items like clothing, furniture and large electronics will not be recovered.

Please note that many items will not be recovered and that submitting a report for an item does not guarantee recovery of the item or that an item, if recovered, will be returned to the registrant. Return of items will be subject to further ownership verification.

Teams are working diligently to recover and catalog items. However, due to the ongoing demands of the disaster, there is no time frame for when items will be available for return. The process of collecting, sorting, and identifying objects will be lengthy, but be assured updates will be provided as soon as possible.

Your registration will be sent to the Miami-Dade Police Department Crime Scene and Evidence Bureau. Please note that return of items may require additional ownership verification.

The Surfside Champlain South Tower location remains a restricted area for various reasons, including the presence of hazardous materials and other unsafe conditions. The general public will not be able to search the rubble. Trained professionals such as police officers and fire rescue personnel are working to safely recover and preserve any evidence relevant to this disaster.

The Miami-Dade Police Department Crime Scene and Evidence Bureau will determine ownership in accordance with the law, to include the probate process and any applicable court orders. Only verifiable information submitted in the missing items reports will be considered. Verifiable information may include serial numbers, receipts, photographs, and/or court affidavits.

In order to ensure that your loved one's wishes are honored or that items are returned to the correct family member, all items which have not be designated as necessary for religious burials will be returned in accordance with the probate process or any applicable court order.
