Boot Camp
The Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department has gained a reputation throughout the nation as an organization dedicated to the achievement of excellence. This department has earned its reputation by encouraging creative and innovative approaches to the numerous opportunities faced by correctional organizations.
The program utilizes an Inmate Management System known as “Shock Incarceration” and “Regimented Inmate Discipline” in a paramilitary setting integrating academic, vocational, rehabilitative programs, the Thinking for a Change model, structured activities and a wide array of services.
Participants consist of convicted offenders between the ages of 14 and 24 with those under 18 having been adjudicated as adults and are mandated in the program as part of their sentence. Participants receive General Equivalency Diploma preparation, vocational training, postsecondary education assistance, financial literacy, skills training, job placement, and volunteer opportunities. As part of the program, inmate visitation is considered a privilege and granted during graduation and family night.
The Boot Camp Program has remained accredited by the American Correctional Association, a national benchmark for the effective operation of correctional systems throughout the United States since 2004.
