Pedro J. Garcia, MNAA, was elected as Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser in 2008. He was the first elected Property Appraiser in Miami-Dade County in more than five decades. He was subsequently re-elected to office in the 2014, 2016 and 2020 elections.

Mr. Garcia has worked in the Florida real estate industry since 1970. He is a Real Estate Broker and State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. For more than 35 years, he owned a real estate brokerage and an appraisal firm. Prior to being elected as Property Appraiser, he also served 10 years as Special Magistrate with the Miami-Dade County Value Adjustment Board (VAB).

He is a member of several prestigious professional organizations including the Miami Association of Realtors, board member of The Baptist Health Foundation, current member of Florida Association of Property Appraisers, former president of the Florida Association of Property Appraisers, the Hispanic American Certified Appraisers, the National Association of Master Appraiser, and most recently, Mr. Garcia was inducted as an honorary member for the Big Five Club.

Mr. Garcia is committed to ensuring fairness and equitable assessments for all property owners. As one of his top priorities, he continues to aggressively pursue and investigate Homestead Exemption fraud to ensure property owners are not burdened with overpaying taxes as a result of those committing fraud.

Mr. Garcia was born in Havana, Cuba. He and his family have resided in Miami, Florida since 1962. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, and he is also a member of the American Legion Post 0346. In his spare time, Mr. Garcia enjoys playing golf and fishing.

He and his wife, Amalia, have been married since 1959. They have been blessed with four daughters, thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Notable awards include The National Association of Hispanic Public Administrators (2008), Realtor Association of Greater Miami and the Beaches (2009), Big Five Club (2010), Gables Good Government Committee (2010), Latin American Business Association (2015), Florida Association of Property Appraisers (The Ervin A. Higgs Award in 2016) and the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Hispanic Leadership Award in 2019.
