Class III Permit

The Class III permit is needed for construction within non-tidal canals or areas under the direct control of Miami-Dade County, such as canal rights-of-way, canal maintenance easements and reservations.

The Class III permit is needed to protect the access to and maintain control over the canal system for water management and flood protection purposes.

Before you start work, zoning approval from a local municipality or Miami-Dade County (if you are in unincorporated Miami-Dade) is required prior to construction activity. Depending on the features of each project, a Class IV permit may be required.

There may be instances when other permits are required. We encourage you to call call 305-372-6681 to discuss your particular case or to receive additional information.

• It takes approximately 30 days to process the Class III Permit.
• Class III Permit fees are listed in the Fee Schedule.
• The Class III Permit is valid for one year and it is renewable.

Those requiring a time extension for a Class III, (or Class II, Class V, or Class VI) permit need to submit the following application 30 days before the permit expires. For more information, please call 305-372-6681.
