Miami-Dade County urges residents to seek shelter and provides updates on County services
Hurricane Milton is currently a major category 3 hurricane as it heads toward the west coast of Florida, anticipated to make land fall tonight or early tomorrow morning. Miami-Dade remains under a tropical storm warning as well as a tornado watch. While less intense rainfall is now anticipated, Milton remains a major storm and we must be prepared for likely tropical storm force winds and possible tornado activity.
All residents are urged residents to stay off the roads, particularly after 8 p.m. when we expect the arrival of tropical storm force winds.
Important updates for mobile home residents who wish to evacuate: Miami-Dade County will discontinue transportation operations for mobile home evacuations to the evacuation center as of 10 p.m. tonight. You can call 311 to request a ride to shelter up until 8 p.m. tonight. This decision follows the National Weather Center’s latest information regarding the expected arrival time of tropical storm force winds. Residents are reminded to seek shelter as early as possible and remain indoors to ensure their safety during this time.
Updates on other County services:
- The Emergency Operations Center remains activated to ensure the County is ready to respond should any conditions change.
- Essential county services including water and sewer and transit services including Metrorail, Metrobus, and Metromover will have normal operations tomorrow, October 10, weather permitting.
- Non-essential County government offices and services, including garbage collection, Zoo Miami, county marinas, and county libraries, will remain closed tomorrow, October 10, except for essential staff.
- Miami International Airport remains open and operating, although some airlines are cancelling flights. Travelers are encouraged to confirm their flight status before heading to the airport.
- PortMiami remains under port readiness condition Yankee. Under Yankee, the Port will not be receiving any inbound vessels. The tunnel is closed and all port traffic must utilize the port bridge.
- All drawbridges remain lockdown for boat traffic until further notice.
First responders from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s (MDFR) Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Florida Task Force One (FL-TF1) and Miami-Dade Police Department are set to deploy and assist other local and state agencies with hurricane relief efforts in affected areas of the Florida peninsula, as well as provide critical support, including search and rescue operations, infrastructure assessments, and relief distribution.
All information about Hurricane Milton is available at miamidade.gov/milton. Residents should continue monitoring local media and verified social media platforms as the County shares important updates this week.
