706 - RAISED PAVEMENT MARKERS AND BITUMINOUS ADHESIVE A ) Internally Illuminated Raised Pavement Markers (Class F) Retroreflective raised pavement markers (RPMs) are the Department’s standard type of raised pavement markers and are used as positioning guides to supplement longitudinal pavement markings for enhanced nighttime and wet weather visibility. Internally Illuminated Raised Pavement Markers (IIRPMs) are steady burn (i.e. IIRPMs do not blink) internally illuminated raised pavement markers that may be installed in the roadway surface, pursuant to Chapter 3B of the MUTCD, as an alternative to standard RPMs and subject to the following: 1. Proposed use of IIRPMs is limited to mitigation strategies on County Roads whose curves have substandard horizontal alignment or super-elevation; substandard lane widths; or substandard shoulder widths 2. A signed and sealed Traffic Engineering and Safety Study must be conducted to justify the use of IIRPMs. Installation requires County-approved site-specific engineering plans and permit 3. Design and construction must meet all requirements of FDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction Sections 706 and 970; and FDOT Standard Plans Index 706-001.
